USNR H-3 VS-912 ​

This GENTEX H-3 helmet belonged to Lt C.E. Stickney of USNR Squadron VS-912 based at NAS South Weymouth, MA.

 

During the 1950s decade SOWEY Naval Air Station was hosting a number of different USN and Reserve units and acted as a development base for Anti-Submarine Warfare technologies.

It is likely that Lt Stickney flew the GRUMMAN AF-2W or AF-3S GUARDIAN during those years with the Hunter-Killer concept.

Although the AF-2/3 was used by the USN for a short duration due to its poor flying performances and high accident rate, the USN Reserve operated the type as late as 1957.​​​
