APH-6  VF-96

This APH-6A belonged to LT LDO (Limited Duty Officer) Francis GORECKI, VF-96 FIGHTING FALCONS Assistant Maintenance Officer in 1969. During that period VF-96 was temporary operating from ashore due to the fire that damaged USS ENTERPRISE on January 14 while enroute to the Vietnam coast.

The FIGHTING FALCONS returned to the Vietnam War zone from April to December 1970 aboard USS AMERICA and later completed two more Vietnam cruises aboard the USS Constellation.

Francis GORECKI is also known for having given his name to a mountain situated in British Antarctica that was discovered during the US NAVY South Pole exploration flights under OPERATION DEEP FREEZE I.

During January 1956 the crew of a P2V-2N NEPTUNE on which GORECKI operated as Aviation Electronics Technician discovered several un-named mountains in British Antarctica and the names were thus given using the P2V-N crew ones.
