GLOVES

DSC_9964 - Copia.JPG

"PILOTENHANDSCHUHE"

In service from the 1940s to the mid-1970s, these suede gloves were issued to pilots of propeller-driven aircraft as the P-51, jets, and helicopters.

We are not aware of any documentation regarding their manufacturer(s), pictures of the time are showing different patterns of ventilation holes. Unfortunately, I found only one glove ...looking for a second specimen to complete a pair.

"HANDSCHUHE MIT STRICHFUTTER"

Originally issued to early jet, Pilatus PC-6 Porter, DO-27, C-36 and helo crews, then distributed to elite paratroop forces.

When assigned, the sewn leather tag has the pilot identification code pyrographed.

GANTS LONG

"GANTS LONGS"

At the beginning of  Swiss AF Mirage III S operations, the high altitude pilot equipment was the same as the one in use at the time by the French Air Force.

The unpressurized "gants longs" (long gloves) distributed to the crews, but were shortly afterwards replaced by the grey "Fingerhandschuhe".

GUANTI GRIGI

"FINGER-HANDSCHUHE"

Made of "Zickelleder" (kidskin or goatling skin), those gloves were issued to Mirage III pilots, replacing the "long gloves", most probably due to comfort reasons.
