MILITARY SHOES 49/ 52

Those shoes were the standard ones provided to all services, derived from the early 1898/1920 hobnailed model. In 1952, the Air Force Commander ordered by letter to replace the shoes with hobnails with ones without, in order to avoid damage to aircraft surfaces and cockpits.

Due to the fact that the involved costs were not planned in the year 1952 Federal budget, the airforce personnel was required to buy (!) at least a pair of nailless shoes for the "special price" of CHFrs 22.- instead of the standard 60.- .

If the soldier was not able to pay the due amount, the possibility was given to have a "second hand" pair of standard shoes resoled by the unit or a contracted civilian shoemaker.
