 ZSh-5A

One piece fibreglass helmet first issued in the early '70

for use in combat jets (like the MiG-21 and SU-15).

The mask is a KM-34, which is basically a KM-32 enclosed in a fibreglass shell.

This made the mask sturdy externally, and thus allowed the pilot to reach higher altitudes (i.e. you can create a bigger pressure

difference inside of the mask).

This mask was larger then the KM-32, so it was more comfortable to wear.

The visor lowering device, is activated instantly in case of an ejection, protecting the pilot's face from the wind blast.
