USAF Toptex 3 BM

Manufactured by Protection, Inc. USA and typically worn by test pilots during the mid '50 and '60, this particular example is dated 1956 and has the early type visor locking system.

The Toptex was a comfortable, custom-fitted helmet. Despite the introduction of the newer HGU series, it could be seen still worn by many pilots during the Vietnam War.

USAF Col. Jack Broughton, author of "Thud Ridge" and "Going Downtown", former Thunderbirds leader and Deputy Commander of the 355th TFW, used the Toptex helmet while flying

F-105D's from Takhli RTAB in 1967.
