MK-1 A

This helmet was introduced at the same time with the Hawker

Hunter Mk.58 in 1958. The oxygen mask a British Type H or a British modified A-13 .

The Mk.1A consists of an inner fabric helmet and a protective hard shell with sliding visor.

Being a rather new design for that era (early '60), such equipment was nicknamed

"bonedome" or "brain bucket"...

In the Swiss Air Force the Mk.1A was used mostly during tests, while conveying Hunters from Great Britain to Switzerland. It was subsequently replaced by the H-5.
